I'm sure this was discussed before, but one thing that would *really* make the game easier to get into and more fun is allowing parties to be formed through chat, like /join - and having those parties hold together across districts. It is a royal pain to try and get a pickup party going for something like tombs now, and it need not be.

Still another possibility, as I recall, is to use one of the hot keys (identified or modified in "control setup" accessed thru the options tab in upper right portion of the game screen) like "c" or tab to target closest or cycle thru foes (watch for red circle at their feet to id which one). THEN hit space to run forward and attack or click a spell in which case character will run to spell range and then perform the spell.

All of the quests in pre-searing Ascalon seem to be "collect X number of (insert item here) from killing (insert monster type here)." The repetition is getting really annoying; please make the quests more original.

Please make bad skills better before making good skills worse by nerfing. Also, please keep skill options and diversity open (ie. don't make skills in secondary attribute lines useful to only one primary class; Healing Touch is silly right now).

its very hard to come up with originality
i know that as an artist in the making
and the pre-searing quests were just sort of a tutorial and made to let you get to know which maneuvers work in which ways and how to use them

Default Name control

I know this has not been breached on this forum, but I would like to make a suggestion. Character naming should have some rules to it. I believe it destroys the entire role playing gaming experiance if just anything goes. Perhaps your getting info on a quest and Lord Butt Punk strolls by? Or Whacky Duck starts chatting with you. I've also seen characters with actual titles. I feel this takes away from the experiance if everyone can be King, Queen, Lady or Knight whoever. After all, doesn't the city we start in already have a King? I understand the need for expression. But this is a world being created in a particular genre. King Laser Gun takes away from this, and cheapens it. Titles are not a bad idea though so I will not discount those. I feel they should be earned though. Perhaps after reaching so many levels a player can choose (out of a few options based on profession maybe?) a title to augment their characters name. (I.E. "Spiritualist" Devona Syndre(monk), or "War Leader" Grunner Vuul(barbarian). Or even upon completion of a quest or mission.

i am unsure
the idea of being sir or lady <name> IS intriguing dont get me wrong
but many people don't like the fact that they arent directly in charge of their own name
not to mention in order fot them to be checked, they would need to be put through a long a annoying process
i personally dont thing Agent Dark Bootie takes much from the experience
however something like "Touch Me L33T" or "Bootielicious Girl" would
my name of course is not really Agent Dark Bootie lol
and though at first, it might seem as meaningless as Bootielicious
but it is more to me
the only names i ever go by on games are:
Agent Dark Bootie
Spazz (sometimes She Spazz)
Spazznid
and lately, Nova Prospekt (or Element Prospekt)
sure these might be different than the names from the themed time period in GW
but isn't GW a fantasy game?
where your fantasy may roam freely?
now i am not saying i dont mind it when "Stupid toad" walks by and such
i may not like those names but i dont hold that against them
if they play more seriously than they name their char, im ok
i take my name very seriously
Agent Dark Bootie is becomming more and more of a keepsake name
and Spazz is what i sign my art with
its who i am
and i for one won't trade that for "Sir Elliot of Whales" or something
sorry
i wish people WERE more serious about how they name themselves.
at least something of meaning that only a tru friend or themself can really understand but that everyone else can recognize
not like Ben Dover or something stupid
but if one grape is bad, you shouldn't throw the whole group away
my name means alot to me
Agent Dark Bootie is from a show called invader zim
he is unusuall and mysterious and you would never guess what he was like if you really saw him
and spazz describes my thought and fealings
an enigma of sorts which can never fully be described.
and very different from the rest (eg: the two z's instead of one)
sorry but dont count on it happening

I definatly understand choice, freedom and expressing yourself. But I really must say watching Sir Dildo walk by is too much. I originally started rpg in a text based Fantasy game. And they had lots of rules yes, which could be binding. One of which was use of rules on names, certain words you simply could not use like profanities and titles. So I admit I'm sorta spoiled by that. The other was talking of out text. I'm sure the use of some type of filter would make it easier. And you are definately correct in stating it is fantasy, but I would say specifically of a certain genre. After all, I believe all content should fit the world. Wouldn't you be agahst to see a vw bug rolling through the landscape? I hope they consider it. And I can see how people would be attached to their names. After 4 months of being "Sultana" I was told I had to change the name. Very upsetting after so long. But change it I did. After all it was a title. But I believe in keeping it within the game's , genre it can be more in depth. Sure some might not like it. But thats true of anything right? I'm just looking for a control of the more blatent forms of names. Actuall profanities, Names of real people, actors and characters that are well known. E.I. Conan the Barbarian Red Sonja and such. Your name could actually get by, but I would make you earn the AGENT, but then you could still have it

by limiting what names people can use is kinda being selfish, just because you want to play a certain way doesnt mean everyone feels that way. even if you made a way to earn the title king, how would that stop me from puttin that in my name to begin with? if you dont allow anyone to use the word king, then theyre would be no names like kingsley, the filter would be much... MUCH too limiting

they already have a profanity filter for the names... they wouldnt let me use the name miss fallatio

As I said before I'm looking for controls on the more blatent issues of naming. I believe if a text based game from 3 years(that is also still running)ago, can do it and allow people to have names like Kingsley, but not names like Jojo Kingofturds or Mamaqueen then I believe this game can do it too. And I'm being truthful when I say there was a character with Dildo in the name. He must have slipped through the cracks As for being selfish, I'm sure there are many people that are actually for these types of rules since simply put,it is an rpg and if your out of character your technically not roleplaying. Some people are fanatic about this, as I have learned and freak if you bring anything at all real in the game in any way, even in whispers. I'm a little more laid back on this. Disrupting the idea of the game by being "Cyborg Smasher" when obviously there can be no cyborgs is even more selfish. If you want to be Cybrog Smasher go find the right game to be in. That is the basis of a RPG in the first place.

i do know what you are talking about, but i am sorry that i cant agree with it.
I dont want people to have names like kingsley unless their name is such
and i personally like seeing people with their distinctive names
i may not like sir dildo and i would lose all respect for that person as soon as i saw them.
of course my guild leader's name is Sir Decapitator
that is an unlikely name in this genre
but i dont want him to be Sir Geoffery or anything
i dont want people to know me by a conventional name, because i am not conventional.
let me remind you too that paper and pen is MUCH different than virtual
noone should expect this to be anything like Dungeons & Dragons
not that D&D is bad
i love D&D and it in itself is it's own genre and in my opinion it should stay that way but an mmorpg is so different
in fact, not to seem mean or anything, i suggest that you play some everquest or everquest 2 because i have played the trial version of eq2 and i havent seen anyone on that game with a wird name (other than myself lol)
i saw Jameson of bernedun and i saw
tamria priest
and i saw
elvestia rune
but saw nothing along the lines of Sir Dildo
eq2 has a very serious community and it seems that it would meet your wants rather well
(except for that monthly fee)

Mister Dildo was actually in GW. Which is why I'm saying anything anyway. I've seen lots of characters in this particular game with names very similar to this, and some that were nothing but numbers and letters that made no sense at all. I've played a few rpg games and they all seem to have some type of rule to names. I understand this isn't supposed to be like other games. I'm looking for COMPROMISE. I'm not looking to stop people from being Spazz or Mark or Kingsley. But there should be something that keeps players from using "The king nathen" or even "warlord 2" "warlord 3"or any type of profanity. Not that I don't use it, but come on.

Just going off previous visits to GW. I did see them the first time I was here. I used to look all the time at the names of other characters. To get ideas for my own names and see if the name was interesting enough to start a conversation. Won't go looking to do so with someone named newbie stomper.

I'd prefer more mature names by myself too, such names would keep the community-level higher too...I have to admit that I once ran around as "We Like The Moon" but just because I've been too lazy to figure out a better name for a PvP-testcharacter! Maybe they should add something like they got on NwN where you can randomly mix up some names if you can't figure one of by yourself...maybe a nice idea too..

Default If you want to limit everything......

If you want to limit everything, just give out a name for each character slot. Those names cannot be changed or altered. I use profanity in my name. I get it from the real life nickname that I cannot get rid of. I have accepted it and don't giggle about it everytime I see it. I am Chev of Hardass as in the Chev from Hardass or as they call me here in real life Kansas City "The Chevrolet Hardass".

Welcome to the real world.

I think that there should be no.... in the names. Well, who cares what I think because not everyone else thinks the same way I do. Ohh btw if you want you can go ahead and put some thou, thy, and whentsforth in there for realism.

I like to have fun, I like to make jokes when i made the character Chevs Trophy Winch the name was full of jokes. Everything from Family Guy to truck jokes. If you want I will change all of my character names to my birth name. Zachariah Paul Rivard, but that name if far too religious to properly represent me.

What's my point? Don't speak for the world unless you are invited.

woah cool down cowboy
thats not very nice way to put it

as for me ....
when i want to join a party, i usually just walk up to someone and request it. maturely
(although one time i abused the /beg command becuz i was REALLY trying to beat a mission and needen someones help lol)
but its hard for me to think of Agent Dark Bootie and a immature name at all
i dunno why
but if i see someone with the name cleocatra for example... i dont think it is any less respectable than valkyra or drake of flames etc.
i agree that there needs to be limits on names
but not that way you want
i only think there needs to be limits of CERTAIN bad word in names and if a game dev is playing, and sees a un acceptable name, he can give a warning and if the name isnt changed soon that persons character is deleted
but then there would need to be a way for the devs to allow you to change ur name ONLY with their permission and ONLY when they say
